Merry Christos-Mas!

Yes, it’s that time of year once again. Christmas memories.
Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time. ~Laura Ingalls Wilder
Ah, the simplicity of times past. I wonder if Laura witnessed the battle of words that we so readily see in our day and time?

Have you passed by any of the store fronts recently only to be greeted by a big Merry Xmas sign? Did you cringe? Or maybe you’ve caught wind of the constant stuggle within the buisiness world about whether or not it is proper to address a customer with a “Merry Christmas” greeting or to reply the same! Maybe you are IN the midst of that struggle yourself!
Take heart! The Lord has already provided comfort for us. It’s right before our very eyes! Please allow me a moment to explain. I love to hear the words Merry Christmas, don’t you? But what if we find ourselves in a position where our faith is challenged? We are asked or even told to refrain from using the term “Merry Christmas” and instead must say “Happy Holidays” in our places of employment or even in our schools? Though I believe it is vital to maintain our liberties in Christ and freedom of conscience, if you find youselves in any of the above situations, you will be very pleased with these definitions. I’m sure you’re aware of their meanings but gentle reminders are always nice once in a while.
- The word Holiday actually means Holy Day! When you wish someone a happy holidays, you are actually wishing them a happy HOLY day.
- The letter X that we sometimes see in place of the name of CHRIST in Christmas is actually Greek. It means Chi. X is the first letter in the Greek word Christos. The early Christians used this Greek letter for Christos and the fish symbol to both represent CHRIST.

So don’t let the struggles and troubles that we happen upon in this life taint or stand in the way of those new memories that you are planning to make with your family this Christmas. We have a Heavenly Father who has hidden treasures laid in places we’d never dream they’d be. Even in those words the enemy thinks that he is over powering us with!
May You Have a Very, Merry Christmas!
In His Love,
